Design Statement/Philosophy
A thoughtful expansion over the garage creates a classically proportioned primary bath and dressing room suite for gracious living.
Design Overview/Challenges
- The primary bedroom in this 1980’s traditional home had a diminutive sized en-suite bath (~50sf) and wee walk-in closet (~58sf) with sloped ceilings. Adding on a completely new primary bath over the existing garage was the solution. The existing ceilings are all at 8’-0”
- The new addition includes a dressing room, the primary bath, a reading nook and a closet area off of an adjacent bedroom.
- As you enter the primary bath, the ceilings are set at two heights- creating a classical progression of spaces on the interior while keeping the added volume above the garage secondary to the main block of the home.
- The freestanding soaking tub opposes the double vanity and is set into an alcove wrapped in a painted rail and style wainscot.
- The bath floor is set in brickweave pattern with two sizes of honed Botticino marble tile.
- The double vanity was custom built with drawer bank offsets to each side and a mirrored panel detail above. Wall sconce lighting, recessed lighting, and a central chandelier illuminate the space.
- Polished nickel plumbing, accessory and lighting fixtures provide a bright accent.
- The water closet is directly opposite the bath entry for easy access while the shower is tucked opposite the tub in the corner for a bit of privacy.
- Dual shampoo heads and storage niches within the shower accommodate the clients to share the shower when desired. Tone on tone subway tile in two sized with chair-rail and base moulding style tile continues the traditional aesthetic in the shower. A shaving ledge to one side and coordinating grab bar and shower door handle complete the space.
From the start I was impressed with the design ideas Stephanie and Amy presented. They listened to our vision and worked with us to create a plan that brought it to life. The regular meetings to choose finishes helped us feel deeply involved in the decision-making process....The attention to detail and craftsmanship are evident in every aspect of the design. The overall combination of design meets build and commitment to client satisfaction truly shines in the finished project.
