Roxburg Drive Basement
Design Statement/Philosophy
Transforming a tired basement living area into a functional and vibrant entertainment zone was the main goal of this renovation. The client’s existing space was not aligned with their current lifestyle or social gathering needs. By carving out square footage from an existing unfinished storage space to create a fully functional wet bar, with floating wood shelves, internally lit display cabinets, appliances and customized beverage storage, this renovation truly gave the clients a space to entertain beautifully and effortlessly.
Design Overview/Challenges
- With direct access to the outdoor pool area, bringing in traffic-friendly flooring was a must. Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring for the win!
- Concealing the Dishwasher drawer within a full overlay style cabinet while matching the sizing of the beverage fridge was tricky.
- The turned posts were a brand new offering from the cabinet company and shipped a full month behind the rest of the units making selection of the sunburst finish risky.
- Mounting the wine display pegs through the cork wallpaper required altering the manufacturer's suggested attachment methods during installation
Project Overview/Solutions
- Creating a wine display area at the base of the stairway introduces guests to the bar zone with a signature design feature, showcasing some of the clients’ favorite wines in front of a natural cork wallcovering.
- Within the wine display area tucked behind the door opening and out of sight a silicone LED lighting was used to ensure the whole display was washed in light, avoiding any hot spots or glare.
- A custom stadium-style beverage pullout was installed, giving the client flexible, but convenient access to drink bottles of varying sizes.
- Placing cork wallpaper inside the rear of the display cabinets at the bar, not only visually ties the bar to the wine display area, it was a creative use of remaining material.
- The Champagne bronze hardware and bar faucet give the bar a fresh, modern feel alongside the other materials in subdued coconut/creams and warm wood tones.
This is our second project with Custom Dwellings so we had high expectations and were not disappointed. Stephanie’s initial design, Amy’s ideas and Russell’s building skills transformed our basement into something more than we hoped. From the wine display to the cabinetry, to the flooring, we love it all. Working with Custom Dwelling is as stress-free as these projects can be. There is always a project manager present or on call to oversee the work and answer any question, big or small and the quality of their work is top notch.
